Railway services at Amsterdam Airport
It is the fastest and a budget option to get to downtown Amsterdam. Schiphol Station is located just below the airport. It only takes a couple of minutes walking from Arrivals to Schiphol Plaza, where you can take the stairs, escalators or elevator to the platforms.
To the City Center
The train takes you to Amsterdam Central Station in 14-17 minutes from 6 am to 1 am. There is an early morning train service (2 am to 5 am) traveling every 1 hour). Single fare €5.70 economic class (€4.70 booking in advance) and €8.85 First Class). Children from 4 to 11 (€2.50 + €1 surcharge for a disposable ticket) and children up to 4 years free. In turn, you can easily reach the main stations of the city, such as Amstel, Bijlmer ArenA, Centraal Station, Holendrecht, Lelylaan, Muiderpoort RAI, Sciencepark, Sloterdijk, Zuid and Duivendrecht.
Destinations in Holland
Rotterdam (25 min. €13.40), Breda (55 min. €21), Hilversum, Hoorn, Leiden, Lelystad, Venlo, Hoofddorp, Almere, Den Haag, Nijmegen, Groningen, Amersfoort, Leeuwarden, Enschede. 1 day ticket (€64/€44 off-peak) valid on all Dutch public transport. Good for longer journeys around the Netherlands and/or if using multiple transport companies.
International destinations
High-speed train service to Germany (Bonn, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hanover, Munchen, Osnabruck) and Belgium (Antwerpen, Mechelen, Brussel, Leuven, Gent). You can purchase train tickets for services operated by Thalys, ICE International, CityNightLine and Eurostar at Nederlandse Spoorwegen Hispeed counters. These desks are located near the meeting point of Schiphol Plaza.
Where to buy the ticket
In all cases, tickets are available at automatic machines and counters at Schiphol Plaza. You can also generate it from your mobile phone. Once the order is complete, you can choose to download and print your e-ticket or upload it to the NS application. In addition to paper tickets, many Dutch use a public transport card called 'OV-chipkaart'.
OV Chipkaart:
It is an anonymous chip card that costs 7.50 euros and has a maximum validity of 5 years. It allows you to use all public transport available in the city, in a single ticket. You can use the OV-chipkaart for unlimited travel on the Metro, bus or tram, and choose a one, two or three-day pass to better suit your travel needs. You can also charge it with your credit card. However, a single paper ticket is probably the best option if you only plan to use the train, bus, tram or Metro once.
Amsterdam Travel Ticket
This 1, 2 or 3 day ticket combines the airport train or bus journey with an unlimited GVB travel around Amsterdam. which can be used on all GVB trams, buses, metro and night buses in the Amsterdam metropolitan area. Ticket costs are €17.00 (1 day), €22.50 (2 days) and €28.00 (3 days).
